Is tubular and telescopic bars stronger than rectangular bars? Tubular bars and square bars can only handle a small portion of the weight of a rectangular bar. The weakest systems are telescopic bars. Telescopic bars can bend and flex by the middle because it is a 2 piece system sliding into each other (male/female design) and fastened by a single bolt. Some manufacturers claim to be able to hold 300lbs-400lbs per bar, but is that's evenly distributed weight? Can their system hold the weight down on a emergency stop? That's a lot of weight.
H1 system 8" Wide 11 gauge steel rack base
Is it safer to use a wider base than oppose to a shorter base? Most van racks can hold 500lbs to 750lbs. Can it also hold the same weight during an emergency stop or a frontal impact which is many times the weight it is carrying. That is why we made our system using an 8" wide base and 11 gauge thickness to try to prevent such an occurrence. Watch the video above. We lifted the rear of a Dodge 2500 (Total vehicle gross weight 7360lbs.) with our forklift using only a 1 bar system in the rear. Please do not try this at home or at work.
