This unit is a new surplus HD Electric Model IT-4 Insulator tester. This can be used on an energized 69kv system by attaching to the end of a hotstick, or can be used as a hand held device on de-energized systems. The attachable test probes can be configured in three different arrangements and are flexible to fit across many makes and styles of insulators. With the test set ON, there is a 10kv DC potential applied across the test probes with an approximate current output of 85 microamps. This unit is rechargeable.
The use of this device is to determine internal microcracks in the insulator porcelain, which are not visible to the naked eye. This unit works on glass, composite, polymer, non-ceramic, and ceramic insulators............basically everything out there. Repair and service is supported by the manufacturer.
The test set has lighted indicators which indicate the following conditions:
1. Good insulator, 2. Insulator is surface conductive, 3. Insulator is defective or has very high surface conductivity
Unit comes with hard case, test set, probes, battery, and recharger. Operations manual is also included.
