The MGW 2000 is a plug-and-play, multi-channel streaming server with an embedded operating system that is capable of encoding and transmitting 16 live and pre-recorded streams simultaneously, including up to six in real time, and delivering full-screen, full-motion, high quality video. The unit is packaged in a two-RU-high, rack-mounted, future-ready modular platform with a variety of network interfaces. In addition, the MGW 2000 features field upgradeable slots capable of hosting a mix of new modules, which currently include MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MP3 streaming from 32Kbit/s to 10Mbit/s. These encoding modules are field swappable and upgradeable. An ultra-wide SCSI interface connects the MGW 2000 to an external storage device for on-demand services. An Ethernet port provides connectivity to the web for remote management.
The MGW 2000 has been successfully tested, addressing applications such as video on demand, time-shifted TV applications over xDSL, interactive TV services, business TV, distance learning, B2B communications, web TV, broadcast TV, and video over DSL. The MGE-200D FD1 is a digital encoding module for the MGW 2000e series of streaming video servers. It encodes MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 with video resolutions up to full D1 (720 horizontal resolution) at up to 10 Mbps.
