The foil roll is placed on the holder and advances automatically, all you do is pull the handle. The type or cast logo die is held in an adjustable type holder, placed in the heating section of the machine. The imprinting area is 2 and 1/4" x 5" anywhere on items up to 8. x 11 inches and on items up to 2 and 1/2 inches thick.
