Low temp alloy cerrobend cerro bismuth metal bend music

it melts at 158 degrees fahrenheit.....
USE FOR TUBING BENDING...PROTOTYPE, MATERIAL HOLDING, fixture design, ETC.... WE INCLUDE SPEC INFO WITH PURCHASE AND INFO ON VARIOUS ALLOYS
it was originally developed to hold irregular shaped items for machine work.... items can be placed in the mold, then filled with the alloy, block is then placed in the vise and machine processes completed..... some of the many uses are listed below.......... this block of material was originally used in shielding custom blocking.... therapy use, material was cast in boat foam molds, we used in in casting molds cut into machinable wax, for another practice dealing with missing tissue, of course there is no concerns with the material other than the contents .... growth of the material stabilizes at .005 after one hour, that is in length of a cast bar 1/2 x 1/2 x 12" long will grow by 5 thousandths ..
content.by percentages..50% Bismuth, 26.7% Lead, 13.3% Tin, 10% Cadmium..............................
2 shaped pieces sim to pictured...kidney shaped
of course this material is reusable...steel hardware floats to the top of the molten material... when used for fixtures... irregular shaped items can be removed from the solidified material by heat ...even the use of hot water... in the 180 degree range
16 liquid ounces.... is about 11 pounds 10 ounces weight cerrobend if you are wondering how much you need...fill the mold with water..and extrapolate from here
SEVERAL MORE LISTINGS IN OUR STORES FOR VARYING AMOUNTS
THE SURFACE OF THE MATERIAL IS DEPENDENT UPON THE MOLD OR EXPOSURE TO AIR..I.E. COOLING RATE, THE "TOP" OF THE MUFFIN SHAPED PIECES COOLED AT A FASTER RATE THAN THE BOTTOM... THE MATERIAL CAN PICK UP FINE DETAIL AND WAS ACTUALLY WRITTEN UP IN A SCIENTIFIC PRESS ARTICLE THAT WE LOST IN SERVER TRANSITIONS... FROM 1888... THE MATERIAL IS USED FOR BENDING FINE METAL TUBING AND A RAFT OF OTHER USES...
........ it can be cut and shaped in just about anyway.... the best way to melt the material is in a double boiler... direct heat other than electric is not the hot ticket.... offgassing and separation of the components can occur if you apply a flame directly to the material.... can be used over and over and over, conforms to shapes very well... We used to use this material in a tissue compensating system that followed the contours of the area of the body.... a scale model reverse mold based on laser acquired data... worked very well....grid is one inch squares, ....density is .339 lbs/in2, coefficient of expansion 0.00022/c (degree)
this material has a wide variety of uses, from casting shapes at a low 158 degrees F to using it as a vise or workholding device in the machine shop... this material has been used for over 100 year.. NOT THIS SPECIFIC PIECE... but the material... from being used to recreate items... to holding a workpiece quick repairs, etc.... bearings... though not really a babbit replacement.... it is especially handy when trying to hold a fragile item in a large vise... just place the material in a double boiler and put your workpiece in a small tray... plastic is generally fine... if it can go through a dishwasher it is probably durable enough.... pour the material around the workpiece allow to cool and place it into the vise... when done, place the item and the material in boiling water... it will release the item when it melts...of course you will not use the same pots for cooking dinner....
optimum pour temperature is about 185 degrees F will pour at lower temperatures or higher temperatures, below the boiling point of water... concerns of cooling and die or fixture design will regulate the temp to some degree... as does the separation of the components by overheating
the material has a positive coefficient of expansion.... grows when it cools, just like water.... coefficient is listed below... brownell's gun chamber material differs from this in the content of bismuth primarily.... brownell's has a negative coefficient...
look for additional pieces of the material over the next few weeks. and check stores for fusible metal, cerro
