This product is effective against gram negative, gram positive bacteria and sensitive fungi. Penicillin works by interfering with the bacterial cell wall formation. Streptomycin works by binding the to the 30S ribosomal subunit of gram negative bacteria causing misreading. Amphotericin B interferes with the permeability of the cell membrane via sterol binding.
Antibiotics should not be used as a substitute for good aseptic technique. Combining multiple antibiotics in the same cell culture system may exert cytotoxic effects at lower than recommended concentrations.
