Spectracom netclock/2 8182 wwvb atomic clock receiver
Spectracom NetClock/2 8182 WWVB Atomic Clock Time Code Receiver
In Near Mint Condition IRIG-B Output Option Installed Highly Selective 60KHz Antenna ($170 value)
Here's a rare chance to acquire a Spectracom NetClock/2 WWVB atomic time signal receiver/display. The antenna is new and the receiver is in close to mint condition - and has the useful IRIG output options installed as well as signal fail alarm contacts.
Full details on the receiver's capability may be found in the user manual.
In my testing I was able to achieve WWVB signal lock during the middle of the day within seconds, with full time resolution some minutes later. My location is Washington DC and I'm usually on the fringe of the WWVB reception area and most devices will only synchronize at night. I had the antenna sitting on the floor inside the house, and in no particular orientation. The antenna provided is much more selective than the models originally offered with the 8182 and should not need any amplification at most locations within the continental USA - greatly simplifying installation and configuration when compared to units with in-built amplifiers. Note that your results may vary according to your location and background noise level. A optional matching preamplifier is available if required. Because the antenna supplied doesn't require a preamplifier, the front panel Amplifier LED will illuminate red - which is normal in this configuration. The receiver has also been tested with a stock Spectracom 8206 antenna [not included] with succesful results - in case you prefer to use the receiver with a factory antenna.
A new custom made RG-58/U antenna cable approximately 30 feet in length is included to get you started. This length can be extended if required as signal losses at 60KHz will be low.
This Time receiver unit is ready to go straight out of the box. Unlike a GPS receiver you should - depending upon your location - be able to operate this time receiver with the antenna placed at a convenient location indoors - which could be handy if you are faced with a awkward cable run to get a skyward view of the GPS constellation, or a landlord not included to approve the installation of external antennae. This unit offers IRIG, 1PPS and RS-232 outputs. No software is included but a number of applications are available to enable a PC to act as a master clock etc.
