This machine is a MONSTER workhorse and weve never had a problem with it. The Deutz diesel motor runs perfectly and all the attachments operate as they should. The Towmaster trailer works well for hauling cars and scissor lifts also! Here are some items to note:
The micro switch which requires the clutch to be held down to start the motor has been bypassed. This is easy to fix. The location of the switch is such that it becomes mis-aligned or broken easily, so we bypassed it one day by simply splicing the two wires together and never bothered to replace the switch.
There are normal hydraulic fluid leaks for a machine this age. One in the front, which I believe is in the ram for the main digging boom, and one in the back. We have not needed to add fluid. As I mentioned, everything works great.
There is what I have been told is a "dead spot" (?) on the starter, so sometimes you need to turn the key to start 2-3 times before the engine turns over. Ditch Witch told us as long as we didnt mind doing that, it really wasnt worth the cost to fix. Other than that, it always fires right up.
We tack welded a piece of steel to the trenching boom to give the chain better consistent tension so it couldnt come off in really rocky conditions. This proved to be a great solution.
There is some rust through on the trailer fenders as you can see in the pictures.
We just had the trailer brakes, wheel bearings and grease seals replaced to the tune of $917.31!!
