Stm LM317 + LM337 variable 1.5A voltage regs (qty.10)

STM LM317T + LM337SP, Variable 1.2V..37V @ 1.5A Voltage Regulators (Qty.10)
On offer are several lots, each of 10 new pieces of the classic Nat.Semi. designed variable regulators (5 of LM317T positive, 5 of LM337SP negative) manufactured by STMicroelectronics. Brand new, these fall into the 'good value' rather than 'scarce' category.
* Complementary types for +/- supplies
* Variable 1.25V to 37V output
* Fully integrated overload protection
* Only 2 external resistors needed per rail, no caps
* Can substitute for many different fixed regulators, with higher performance
The complementary 317 and 337 regulators are useful for building fixed or variable, symmetrical or asymmetrical supplies at up to 1.5A, over a range of +/- 1.25V to +/-37V. Being variable, the 317 / 337's are handy while prototyping, allowing fine tuning of supply voltages.
By referencing each regulator to the opposite polarity supply, the full 0V to +/-37V range is possible, which allows for a variable 0-70V+ supply. However, they're equally at home supplying +/-3V for modern op-amp circuitry, or anywhere in between.
Because they can be configured as constant current regulators (with just one resistor), they're useful when experimenting with high power LEDs, see http://www.reuk.co.uk/Using-The-LM317T-With-LED-Lighting.htm
Both types are in the regular leaded TO220 package, with tabs which can be bolted to heatsinks or metal paneling for best thermal performance. The 0.1" pin pitch allows easy mounting on a strip of regular 'vero' stripboard for prototyping work, as well as on regular PCBs. At 1.5A+ they are suitable for supplying many small analog modules within a system.
Simple to understand and use, just add two resistors (one can be variable) to set the voltage. No caps needed, but all pins can be bypassed to ground with a tantalum cap for performance critical applications. See the data sheets below for schematics, etc.

Voltage regulators are perhaps not as glamorous as RF semis & modules ... but are every bit as essential. I use these often so bought a larger quantity and am happy to list here at a fair price.
Maplin has these at 79p for the 317 and 97p for the 337, making this lot 8+. Brand New parts available here at a much lower fixed price with low cost P&P worldwide.
Surely worth adding to the parts drawer at this price!
RFPlus is a hobbyist with far too many components, accumulated over years of experimentation and development work, mostly in Australia.
Now located in the Southwest of England, UK ... the fishing town of Looe to be more precise ... I'm hoping to make a serious effort to dispose of the bulk of my electronic parts collection ... too many projects, too little time ... . It'll likely take a couple of years to work my way through, so if you're interested in 'The Art', particularly the RF side, please check back as there's a fair mix of both the utilitarian and the esoteric set to appear ...
I wish each and every one of you a fine year ahead in 2010 ... may your projects be successful with a minimum of unexpected smoke ... though of course if you ever need replacement parts you know someone to ask ;-)
