The Macholdt Active Inhaler, FDA Registered (Class I) medical device. The Inhaler is a medical device made from medical glass and has a silver coating. It designed for the purpose of the inhalation of essential oils and oils from medicinal plants for the treatment of certain medical conditions. The inhaler invented in the 1930's and patented in the 1970's in Germany. Since then it has been very popular with doctors and their patients. Each device is manually produced which insures its high quality. The simple processes of inhalation make it possible quickly and efficiently obtain a good therapeutic effect. Due to the design of the device, medicine, once inhaled and atomized into the smallest particles reaches each branch of the bronchial system where the center of the problem is located.
Indications for Use For the treatment of respiratory illnesses, sour throat, cough, stuffy nose, sneezing, runny nose, sinus problems and occupational related illnesses in singers, teachers, miners, chemists, welders. May be used to maintain respiratory health for preventive purposes. Inhalation by Mouth The inhaler placed in the mouth similar to how one would smoke a pipe and air pulled in slowly and deeply. Breathe in through the mouth and exhale through the nose. The first five or six breaths should be shallow.
Inhalation through Nose The nosepiece is placed on the mouthpiece and breathes in through the nose and exhale through the mouth. The intensity of inhalation can be regulated by placing a finger over the filling hole. Warm and hot inhalations are particularly effective forms of inhalation and can be achieved by holding the inhaler in hot water.
Dosage and Methods of Use Before use, wash the inhaler in warm running water and then proceed by adding the proper amount of essential oil into the funnel shaped end of the apparatus. The proper amount should not be more than 3-4 drops of oil with the exception of children 10 and under and the elderly who should use 1-2 drops. The treatments may be repeated every 2-4 hours and should last 4-5 minutes. If necessary, the procedure may be repeated as often as every 1-2 hours. The duration of each treatment for children and elderly individuals should be 1-2 minutes long. Treatment may continue for as long as symptoms persist, not to exceed thirty days. Before starting a subsequent course of treatment with the Macholdt inhaler, allow at least a ten to fourteen day break between courses of treatment. For Preventive purposes, inhalation may be done once per day. After each treatment, it is recommended to rest for 1-11/2 hrs. It is also recommended to avoid eating or drinking after each treatment for 40-60 minutes because the essential oils continue to affect the inflamed mucous membranes for that time period.
