Laboval 4 clinical microscope
aus Jena "Laboval 4" Microscope
This used microscope was probably made in the 1980s in East Germany, before German reunification. These microscopes
were made in the original Carl Zeiss factory in Jena. They were known in the Soviet sphere by the "Carl Zeiss, Jena" brand
and in the USA simply as "aus Jena", this because the Carl Zeiss company was, essentially, split in two, with the "Carl Zeiss"
brand moving to the West German counterpart of the original company for Western markets.
The optics is superb and the microscope, which was well cared for, is in excellent condition. This gorgeous microscope
includes a 6-volt illumination system and a perfectly operating solid-state dimmer.
This microscope has a turret nosepiece with four objective lens mounts. Included are four objective lenses:
* 3.2 power, semi-planar
* 10 power
* 40 power
* 100-160 power, zoom objective
The left eyepiece mount features a diopter adjuster to account for differences in one's eyes focal lengths. The stage includes a
smoothly operating vernier adjustment mechanism in both X and Y planes. Finally, this microscope includes a sliding prism
with two positions, one to divert the light to the stereo eyepieces and the other position to allow the light to go
straight up to the 1.25 X threaded camera mount with 2.5cm OD.
This microscope belonged to my father who owned a private clinic. He has recently retired and no longer has any use for it.
I am not a microscope expert; so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will furnish
whatever extra information I can, as well as more photos if necessary. I have tested this microscope and
found it to be in excellent working condition.
