Linear technology LT1207 dual 60MHZ 250MA opamp (qty.2)

Linear Technology LT1207 Dual 60MHz 250mA Current Amplifier
Linear Technology, like Analog Devices, make some exceptional devices and can likewise justify higher margins than the bigger manufacturers (TI, OnSemi, NatSemi) because of their innovative designs and superior performance. Their parts are almost always more expensive but well worth using if you can get your hands on them. Take a look at the following specs ...
* 250mA Minimum Output Drive Current
* 60MHz Bandwidth, AV = 2, RL = 100ohm
* 900V/us Slew Rate, AV = 2, RL = 50ohm
* 0.02% Differential Gain, AV = 2, RL = 30ohm
* 0.17 Differential Phase, AV = 2, RL = 30ohm
* High Input Impedance: 10Mohm
* Shutdown Mode: IS < 200mA per Amplifier
As you can see these are rather special, combining a high current output capability with very high speed, making them able to drive 50 ohm loads at radio frequencies and thus of particular interest to the ham experimenter. They are protected from abuse with built-in thermal and current limiting circuitry and will operate on supplies from 5V to 15V supplies (which need not be symmetrical).
Being dual amplifiers, one IC can be configured in differential mode, or even paralleled to give a 500mA output capability (as shown in the datasheet).
These amps are probably most useful as buffers/drivers, providing a high impedance at the input (so as not to load it down) and able to drive low impedance loads, even difficult capacitive loads, long cable runs, etc. If you might need to drive high speed digital or analog signals over a fair distance via twisted pair cable (eg, for remote sensing or control) then these would be a good choice.
An obvious application would be to buffer a DDS or other RF generator (sig-gen, timebase, GPSDO, etc) to give a strong output capability. I've not tried it but they would probably make a useful HF QRP transmitter output stage! (Let me know if you try this ... and I'll send free spares).

Specialist parts like these are not stocked by general suppliers like Maplin but the big distributors have them at a price. Specifically, Digikey lists them at 9.61 each + VAT (+ 12 S&H), so just one of the lots here would cost you 30+ delivered!
