SOLID BRASS FLORAL CENTERPIECE OR SERVING DISH WITH LOVE BIRDS! PERFECT FOR BRIDAL SHOWER, WEDDING OR ANNIVERSARY PARTY (AND MANY OTHER OCCASIONS!)
If you have plans for an upcoming bridal shower, wedding reception, golden wedding anniversary party, or just want to delight yourself, take a close look at this magnificent ALL BRASS centerpiece (or serving dish). The symbolism for wedded bliss is fantastic. You ve got 2 sweet lovebirds and 2 concentric gold colored rings. Add flowers for romance and it s just perfect. There is a wonderful deep channel to hold a good supply of water to keep flowers fresh. If you carve floral foam and insert it, you can even add candles (up to 1" diameter) because the foam will lend sufficient support with the over 1-1/2 depth the ring offers. Of course, you can also put a huge candle in the center all by itself. (I put a 3" diameter candle in for one of the photos.) For one party, I put crushed ice in the channel and hung shrimp off both sets of edges with a big bowl of cocktail sauce in the middle. (Was that ever a BIG hit!!) This is a wonderfully versatile piece. We're downsizing soon and I don't see that much big entertaining in our future, so we're ready to pass this lovely piece on to someone who will thoroughly enjoy it.
This elegant piece weighs over 3.25 pounds empty, so no worry that it will tip over.
The scale is grand and the uses limited only by your imagination. I've never done this, but you could probably set up a small water fountain in the center and the look would become one of two birds perched at the edge of a pool or bird bath. (Or how about a circular block of blue tinted ice for a similar effect that would be much less tricky to stage?) I recently filled it with shiny dark blue marble disks and it looks like there is water in the channel. This is just so lovely.
Dimensions: the diameter from one edge of the outer ring to the other outer side is 10 . If you add the birds to that, the footprint approaches 14 . The maximum height to the top of the birds heads is about 4-1/4 , and as mentioned above, the depth of the channel for water, Xmas ornaments, rocks, silk (or real) flowers, candy, etc., is about 1-1/2 .
Manufacturer & Age: Neither are known. There is no manufacturer s mark or country of origin on the piece. I cannot guess about the age. I bought it in an antiques/collectibles shop within the past 12 years, but no information was supplied with it. Somehow these facts don t seem to have much bearing on this piece. It will likely grab you for its beauty and originality, not its age or pedigree.
Condition: Used. Very good. The parts that would remain visible when the piece is in use are nice and shiny and corrosion-free. The interior channel that has held water is ever so lightly corroded, but the material is so thick, there is no worry of any leakage or any likelihood that leaks could happen anytime soon. I have polished the circular channel and as the photos show, it looks quite good. The areas under the birds, (because they are hard to reach) do not polish up that well, but they are also barely visible for most typical uses. There are no dents, cracks, repairs. A very nice solid piece that is quite timeless! It will be the hit of your special occasion.
